The Foden’s band are
delighted to have made history last weekend by becoming the Whit Friday
(Tameside) Champions for the 7th consecutive year. The
Sandbach band, conducted by Gary Cutt, started the night early at 4:30
pm with a solid performance at Hurst Cross. Foden’s then went on to
perform at 10 competitions during the night in which the band walked
away with a prize at every venue it played.
The band not only
gained an astonishing 6 first prizes but also picked up two 2nds and a 3rd
in the Tameside area as well as a token 2nd place under the
flood-lit and slightly boggy field at Scoutshead.
Whilst retaining its
title in fine form for the seventh time in 7 years, members of the band
also found the time to indulge in the culinary delights of the curry
house at Stalybridge Celtic as well as partaking in an inter-band
cricket match along the way!
“It was a fantastic
evening. Everyone was in good spirits and the night was relaxed and
enjoyable. Saying that, the band really pulled out all the stops when it
came to the playing and we are delighted to have made another bit of
history this year and we would like to thank all our supporters as well
as our wonderful MD, Gary Cutt.”
John Barber, Chairman
The Foden’s Band
Allied to this
fantastic achievement is the bands success at this years Area
Championships. The comprehensive victory in Blackpool earlier this year
not only gained the band a hat-trick of wins, but also put Foden’s once
again into the record books by becoming the most successful band ever to
play at the contest.
All that’s left now is
the small matter of retaining the bands title as All England
International Masters Champions this coming Sunday. A seventh Cambridge
victory would be in store for Foden’s if they manage to fend off the
competition this weekend. Although tipped as favourites to win the
contest the band realise that winning is going to be no walk in the park
though.
“The band have been
working extremely hard in the wake of this contest. It would be easy
for us to sit back on our achievements but we know that we have to work
hard to overcome the field of bands that await us at the corn exchange.
All of them will fancy their chances here and we are not taking anything
for granted.”
Mark Wilkinson, The
Foden’s Band
Indeed the Foden’s band
have always had fantastic support from the local community in Cheshire
and in particular, its patrons. Loyal Foden’s supporter Stephen Sabeer
has very kindly donated several bottles of Champagne to the band in
light of its recent achievements and the band are extremely grateful for
this wonderful gesture. No doubt the Champagne will be put to good use
at the conclusion of this weekends Masters Championships! |
